Heidi Weng (born July 20, 1991 in Enebakk ) is a Norwegian cross-country skier . It starts for the traditional sports club of rural youth in Oslo (Idrottslaget i Bondeungdomslaget i Oslo, IL i BUL).

Career

Weng made her World Cup debut in November 2009 in Beitostølen , where she was 39th over 10 kilometers and finished 10th in the relay. In the 2009/10 and 2010/11 season she mainly competed in the Scandinavian Cup . In 2011 she took first place in the overall ranking. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2010 in Hinterzarten , she won silver in the 10 km pursuit race and gold in the relay. She got her first World Cup points in March 2010 in Oslo with 23rd place in the classic 30 km mass start race. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2011 in Otepää , she won bronze in the 5 km freestyle and gold in the 10 km pursuit race and with the relay. In the summer of 2011, she won bronze in the 10 km mountain run and silver in the 24 km mass start race at the 2011 Rollerski World Championships in Aure and Kristiansund . At the beginning of the 2011/12 season she came in Davos with ninth place over 15 km freestyle and sixth place in sprint for the first time under the top ten in individual World Cup races. This was followed in the season by her first World Cup finals with two third places in Nové Město with the relay and in Lahti in the skiathlon and second place in the overall ranking at the 2012 World Cup final .

At the beginning of the following season, Weng took third place at the Nordic Opening in Kuusamo . She finished the Tour de Ski 2012/13 in sixth place. She reached third place in the sprint stage in Val Müstair . In January 2013 she won her first World Cup victory with the relay in La Clusaz . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme , she reached third place in the skiathlon and won the relay title. In March 2013 she achieved third place over 10 km classic in Lahti and second place in the sprint in Drammen . At the 2013 World Cup finals , she finished fourth. She finished the World Cup season in fifth place in the overall World Cup and fourth in the distance ranking. In April 2015 she won the Flyktningerennet over 40 km classic.

In the 2013/14 season , Weng came ninth at the Nordic Opening . It was followed by her second World Cup victory in Lillehammer with the relay. On the last day of the Tour de Ski 2013/14 , she moved up from sixth to third place, making it onto the podium for the first time at this event. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , she won her first Olympic medal with bronze in the opening competition in the skiathlon. At the 2014 World Cup final in Falun , she came third overall. At the end of the season, she finished fourth in the overall World Cup and fifth in the distance ranking.

In the 2014/15 season , Weng came in the points in all 14 World Cup races, reaching the top ten eleven times and podium finishes five times. At the Nordic Opening in Lillehammer and the Tour de Ski 2015 she took third place. She achieved podium finishes in all stage races. In January 2015 she became Norwegian champion in skiathlon. At the 2015 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun , she won gold in the relay. Her best individual placement at this World Cup was seventh in the skiathlon. She finished the season in fifth place in the sprint classification, third in the distance classification and in the overall World Cup. In March 2015 she won the Storlirennet 36 km freestyle ski marathon . After finishing ninth at the Nordic Opening in Ruka at the beginning of the 2015/16 World Cup season, she finished second in the skiathlon in Lillehammer and won the relay the next day. At the World Cup in Davos she was third in the 15 km freestyle. At the Tour de Ski 2016 , she took third place. She made it onto the podium six times and took her first individual victory in the World Cup in the 10 km mass start race in Fiemme Valley . At the following World Cup in Planica , she took third place in the sprint and second place together with Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen in the team sprint. In Nové Město she won the relay. At the Norwegian Championships in Tromsø , she won the sprint race. In February 2016 she came in second place three times and third place once in the World Cup. The following month she finished second in the Ski Tour Canada . She came on the podium at all stages and won the skiathlon in Canmore . At the beginning of April 2016 she was second and third over 5 km at the Norwegian championships in Beitostølen over 30 km and in the team sprint. At the end of the season she took fourth place in the Sprint World Cup, third place in the overall World Cup and second place in the Distance World Cup.

After two third places at the first World Cup station of the 2016/17 season in Ruka , Weng won the World Cup mini tour in Lillehammer . She won the sprint and came second in the 5 km freestyle. On the final stage, she ran the third fastest time. This was followed by a second place in the 15 km freestyle in Davos and victories in La Clusaz with the relay and in the 10 km mass start race. She won the Tour de Ski 2016/17 with two third, two second and one first place. In January 2017 she won in Ulricehamn and came third in Falun in the sprint and 15 km mass start race. At the beginning of February 2017 she was third in the skiathlon and second in the sprint at the Norwegian championships in Lygna . In Otepää she achieved third place over 10 km in both classic and sprint. At the season highlight of the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti , she won the silver medal in the 30 km mass start race and the gold medal with the relay and together with Maiken Caspersen Falla in the team sprint. She was also seventh in the sprint, fifth in the skiathlon and fourth in the 10 km classic. At the end of the season she came in the World Cup finals in Québec with a sixth and two second places, came second in the overall standings and won the overall World Cup and the Distance World Cup. As in the previous year, she also achieved fourth place in the Sprint World Cup. At the beginning of the 2017/18 season, she finished fourth in the Ruka Triple and took second place in the skiathlon in Lillehammer . Two third places followed in Toblach . At the Tour de Ski 2017/18 she won the overall ranking with two first and two second places, as in the previous year. At the following World Cup in Planica she was third over 10 km classic and second in the sprint in Seefeld in Tirol . At the highlight of the season, the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , she finished 11th in the 10 km freestyle and sprint, ninth place in the skiathlon and eighth place in the 30 km mass start race. At the end of the season she achieved 18th place at the World Cup finals in Falun and finally won the Overall World Cup and the Distance World Cup.

In the 2018/19 season, Weng took 16th place in the Lillehammer Triple and seventh place in the Tour de Ski 2018/19 . In addition, she won in Beitostølen and Ulricehamn each with the relay. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld in Tirol , she won the silver medal with the relay. In the individual races she came in 19th place over 10 km classic and seventh place in the skiathlon. At the World Cup finals in Québec , she came in 20th and finally reached 16th place in the overall World Cup and 11th place in the Distance World Cup. After finishing second in the Ruka Triple at the beginning of the 2019/20 season, she was third in the skiathlon and first in the relay in Lillehammer and second in the 10 km freestyle in Davos . She finished the Tour de Ski 2019/20 with two second and one third place, in fourth place. This was followed by third places in Nové Město over 10 km freestyle and in Falun in the mass start race over 10 km freestyle. In the 2020 ski tour, she took second place with three and a third place, second place. At the end of the season she won the relay in Lahti and came in second in the overall World Cup and the Distance World Cup.
