Cross-country skiing took place in Sochi in 2014 as part of the XXII. Olympic Winter Games represented for the 22nd time. The competitions took place between February 8 and 23 in the competition region of Krasnaya Polyana , about 70 km east of Sochi. The venue was the Laura biathlon and cross-country skiing center , afacility builton the Psechako mountain ridge (Chrebet Psechako) .

Even the cross-country skiers are still concerned with the issue of doping years after these games in Sochi . Again and again new allegations and evidence of systematic doping supported by the Russian state, combined with large-scale cover-ups, emerge. As a result, Russian sport as a whole is struggling for its reputation. Large events with Russian venues were moved elsewhere, there were bans for Russian athletes worldwide, and a doping scandal of unprecedented proportions took place. There are also far-reaching problems with the re-use of built sports facilities, with interventions in nature and with regard to what remains for the people in Sochi themselves.
