Seraina Boner (born April 11, 1982 in Klosters ) is a Swiss cross-country skier who has been concentrating on long distance races since the 2010/11 season , but is also successful on shorter distances. In 2013 she became Swiss champion over 5 km in free technique. She took part in the Winter Olympics in 2006 and 2014 and in the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2007 , 2015 and 2017 .

Career

In her first major international appearance, Boner was at the Junior World Championships in 2002 in Schonach in the Black Forest , she was 25th in the mass start race over 15 kilometers and 59th in the sprint. In December 2003 she took part in the World Cup for the first time in Davos . After a 13th place in the relay, she was 58th out of 63 participants in the individual race over ten kilometers in the classic technique.

At the Winter Universiade 2005 in Innsbruck and Seefeld she was 48th over five kilometers in free technique. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, 41st, over ten kilometers in the classic technique and eleventh with the Swiss cross-country relay. At the 2007 World Championships in Sapporo , Japan , she was 41st again in the ten kilometer race, which this time was held in the free technique, while she was able to improve to ninth place with the relay. At the 2007 Winter Universiade in Italy, she was 32nd over five kilometers in free technique. On February 23, 2008 she was able to achieve her first World Cup point in Falun, Sweden, as 30th in the 15-kilometer pursuit race.

On January 19, 2014, she achieved her best ever World Cup result in a single race in the mass start race over ten kilometers in Szklarska Poręba, Poland, with eleventh place. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , Russia , she was able to achieve two top ten placements with sixth place in the team sprint and ninth place in the mass start race over 30 kilometers. At the 2015 World Championships in Falun, she was able to achieve two positions in the front field with seventh place in the team sprint and ninth place over ten kilometers in free technique, while she was 15th in the mass start race over 30 kilometers. Two years later at the 2017 World Championships in Lahti , she was only used in the season with which she was seventh.

Her greatest successes include victories at the Birkebeinerrennet (2011, 2012, 2013, 2016), Gommerlauf (2010, 2016), Marcialonga (2011, 2013), König-Ludwig-Lauf (2013, 2014), Fossavatn Ski Marathon (2013), La Diagonela (2014), Årefjällsloppet (2013, 2015) and the Kaiser-Maximilian-Lauf (2016). In 2012 she was able to achieve third place in the Vasalauf , and in 2013 she was second.

In the overall ranking of the FIS Cross-Country Skiing Marathon Cup , she took second place in the 2011/2012 and 2012/13 seasons . In 2011 , 2013 and 2014 she won the overall Ski Classics competition .
