history
Original tradition: the carnival figure of the Geißenmeckerer from Schonach
Until 1806
The name of the place comes from Old High German and means brightly flowing water . It was first mentioned in a document in 1275, but settlement is suspected since the beginning of the 12th century.
In his local history of Schonach from 1925, the senior teacher at the time wrote a. DA Hodapp: "Originally there were 3 farms in the Schonach Valley, one of which was Augustin Hör's Friederhof in Obertal and when it was built, it had the year 1111 on a beam."
Around the year 1000, the monasteries began to develop the narrower valleys and the rougher heights, and they also made the area of Schonach arable for human settlement. Gradually, the " Meiertum " or the " Vogtei " Schonach emerged from the individual farms , which from 1100 to 1200 belonged to the Althornberg area with ten other districts.
The reclamation always began with a clear cut; This was followed by the burning of the wood masses on the ground, finally the digging up of the roots of the hive came until enough forest soil was made usable for a settlement, farmstead, meadow, a field and a pasture field.
With numerous occurrences of bears, wolves and wild boars, forest and field work and cattle herding were associated with dangers to the lives of people and animals.
The end of this settlement is not exactly known, but it is documented that Schonach already had a parish church in 1275.
Schonach belonged to the Triberg rule from the beginning, which after many changes of ownership in 1640 subordinated itself to Austria and remained in front of Austria until 1806 , when this area also fell to the newly created Grand Duchy of Baden .
