Alexander Herr (born October 4, 1978 in Furtwangen ) is a former German ski jumper .

Career

Alexander Herr is the son of the former ski jumper and state ski jumping trainer from Baden-Württemberg, Hans-Paul Herr . Alexander Herr started ski jumping at the age of four. He celebrated his first major success in 1993 when he won the bronze medal on the normal hill at the Junior World Championships in Harrachov, Czech Republic .

Since the winter of 1994/95, Mr. has been a member of the national team of the German Ski Association . In the 1997/98 season he was able to win the overall ranking of the Continental Cup . In January 1999, he jumped into the top ten for the first time at the World Cup ski jumping event in Engelberg, Switzerland . In 2001 he became team world champion in jumping from the large hill at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti together with Sven Hannawald , Martin Schmitt and Michael Uhrmann . In the team competition on the normal hill he won the bronze medal and with his placements in the individual competitions (seventh on the large hill, 16th on the normal hill), he was the second best jumper of the team. This season he also achieved his best place in the overall ranking of the Four Hills Tournament with rank 17 .

After a dry spell without any notable successes, during which he was even downgraded to the Continental Cup, his performance curve did not show up again until the 2003/04 season. After two seventh and one sixth place at the World Cup competitions in Liberec , Willingen and Lahti, he achieved his best result to date with third place at the World Cup in Kuopio .

At the start of the 2004/05 season on November 27, 2004, Herr finished second behind the Finn Janne Ahonen at the World Cup competition in Kuusamo . In the second competition a day later, it was only ninth. His only World Cup victory was in the team competition on January 8, 2005 in Willingen. In the same season, his cruciate ligament tore in a serious fall , whereupon his season was over.

On January 15, 2006, he achieved a sensation with the German team at the Ski Flying World Championships: Mr. and his teammates Georg Späth , Michael Uhrmann and Michael Neumayer won the bronze medal. On that day, Mr managed his first flight over 200 meters.

At the Olympic Winter Games in Turin in 2006, Herr achieved the weakest result of the German team when jumping from the normal hill, which is why an elimination with substitute Martin Schmitt was planned before the nomination for the large hill competition . Mr. was three jumps ahead of Schmitt, but he was favored by a non-compliant jump suit, so that another elimination was scheduled, in which Schmitt was then ahead. After he was nominated by national trainer Peter Rohwein , shortly after the decision, Herr stepped in front of the with the words "This is a laughing stock that shows the competence of the trainer." "A blind man with a cane sees that there were no fair conditions." Camera. He was then removed from the Olympic ski jumping team. A few days later he announced that from now on he no longer wanted to jump in the national team of the DSV.

Mr. then tried to switch to the Swedish Ski Association and trained with the Swedish team before the 2006/07 season. Since he was denied Swedish citizenship, he tried to compete for the Polish Ski Association. He would have been able to acquire Polish citizenship because he has a Polish mother. He officially ended his career in the summer of 2007.

In the 2008/09 season he was a part-time athletic trainer for the women's Bundesliga team at SC Freiburg . On October 4th, 2008 he married his partner Katrin.

On June 3, 2009 it was announced that Mr. wants to jump again actively in the DSV squad from the ski jumping season 2009/10. His goal was the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. In the internal qualification, however, he could not qualify for a starting place in the World Cup or the Continental Cup.

Alexander Herr has been an active member of RC 1886 Villingen since 2012.
