Suorsa started early with the ski jumping and operated as a summer sport and tennis and football . In 1983 he got a starting place in the Finnish national team and made his international debut on December 30, 1983 in the ski jumping World Cup at the opening competition of the Four Hills Tournament 1983/84 in Oberstdorf . His best result in the four competitions, in which he missed the points in all of them, he achieved with rank 24 on the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck . In the end he reached 36th place overall. At the Junior World Championships in 1984 , the 16-year-old only ended up in last place after two falls.
In the following year, Suorsa still jumped behind the world's best in the Four Hills Tournament 1984/85 . In the end he was 54th overall after weak individual results. At the Junior World Championships in 1985 he reached fifth place. At the beginning of the 1985/86 season , Suorsa surprised with an eighth place on the large hill in Thunder Bay . Just a week later, in Lake Placid , he missed the podium twice in fourth. A few days later he won his first World Cup competition in Chamonix . He also achieved this success in Oberstdorf in the Schattenbergschanze in the opening competition of the Four Hills Tournament 1985/86 .
After Suorsa achieved good results in the other competitions of the tour, he finished them in 19th place overall. He missed a better place after a weak 51st place in Innsbruck. In February 1986 he showed his good form in ski flying in Vikersund and came in fifth. After jumping on the podium again in second place at the end of the season in Lahti , he ended his best season in fifth place overall in the World Cup.
As a result, Suorsa did not manage to build on this success. At the Four Hills Tournament 1986/87 he did not get above rank 59 in the overall ranking. With fifth place in Oberwiesenthal , however, he finally reached the norm for the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1987 in Oberstdorf. Together with Matti Nykänen , Ari-Pekka Nikkola and Tuomo Ylipulli , he won the gold medal in the team competition. Suorsa jumped from the large hill with 94.6 and 94.3 meters tied with Mike Arnold in sixth place. On the normal hill he finished 13th after jumps on 85.5 and 86.5 meters.
At the first World Cup competition after the World Championships in Falun , Suorsa was again on the podium in second place. He finished the 1986/87 season in 17th place in the overall World Cup standings. At the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988 he was still on rank 42 in jumping from the large hill after round one but was able to improve to rank 38 in the second round.
At the beginning of the 1988/89 season , Suorsa achieved three top 10 placings in Calgary and Lake Placid , including third place on the large hill in the MacKenzie Intervale Ski Jumping Complex . After he could no longer establish himself in the top of the world, he finally ended his active ski jumping career after the 1989/90 season .
