The Ski Jumping World Cup 1988/89 (official name: FIS Ski Jumping World Cup 1988/89 ) was one of the International Ski Federation FIS between 3 December 1988 and 26 March 1989 discharged at 17 different locations in Europe, North America and Asia series of competitions in ski jumping . Originally, 23 individual competitions were planned. Three competitions had to be canceled without replacement, so that 20 individual competitions were included in the rating. Two competitions planned by the large hill had to be canceled, but could be held on the normal hill on the same day. This season, the Swede Jan Boklöv , who was the first ski jumper to jump in the V-style , won the overall standings . The East German Jens Weißflog and the Federal German Dieter Thoma followed in second and third place . The Finnish defending champion Matti Nykänen finished ninth. Norway won the Nations Cup ahead of Finland and Austria , who won last year .

Changes to the regulations

Since this season there have been no more deleted results. Thus all points that a jumper collects during the season flow into the World Cup ranking. Furthermore, there was a starter restriction that only jumpers were allowed to participate who already had World Cup points from the previous season. Others had to qualify at FIS competitions or Junior World Championships.
