The okurayama ski jump stadium ( Jap. 大倉山シャンツェ , Okurayama-shantse ), also called Okurayama ski jumping stadium (Jap. 大倉山ジャンプ競技場 , Okurayama Janpu kyōgijō ) is known, a ski jump in the Japanese city of Sapporo on the island of Hokkaido . Both the Ski Jumping World Cup and the Continental Cup regularly stop here. Ski jumping competitions from the 1972 Winter Olympics and the 2007 Nordic World Ski Championships were also held here.

investment

The ski jump owned by the city of Sapporo is located in the upper Kotoni valley in the district of Chūō-ku , more precisely on the eastern slope of the Ōkura hill, and can be seen from the city center around the Ōdōri park around five kilometers to the east . The hill size of the jump is 137 m, the design point 125 m at an inclination angle of 35 °. With a run-up length of 94 m, the take-off, inclined by 11 °, is 3.3 m above the ground. The men's hill record is currently held by Kamil Stoch from Poland , who achieved a distance of 148.5 m on January 26, 2019. The longest jump by a woman went to the Japanese Yūki Itō with 145.0 m on March 19, 2016.

From the parking lot, visitors can take an escalator to the stadium, which has a capacity of 50,000 spectators. The Ōkurayama Crystal House with a restaurant and souvenir shop and the Sapporo Olympic Museum, which opened in April 2000, are located near the entrance . The history of winter sports and the Olympic Winter Games is presented on three floors. Along the south side of the facility, past the judges ' tower , a chairlift leads up to the start house (alternatively, a hiking trail can also be used). There is a viewing terrace at a height of 307  TP .

About 1.5 km further south is the Miyanomori ski jump in the Kotoni valley .

history

Sapporo's first ski jumping hill was built in 1917 at nearby Mikadoyama. In 1929 Prince Chichibu Yasuhito promised to support the construction of a large ski jumping hill. In 1930 the entrepreneur Ōkura Kishichirō made a significant financial contribution so that construction work could begin in July 1931. The ski jump was built according to the plans of Olaf Helset , the then President of the Norwegian Ski Association . It was completed in October of the same year; it had a K-point of 60 m and a length of 100 m. After Ōkura, it was named Ōkura-Schanze ( 大 倉 シ ャ ン ツ ェ , Ōkura-shantse ), the second part of the name being a loan word from German. The first competition took place on January 17th, 1932.

During the Second World War the hill was destroyed and rebuilt in 1952, this time with a K-point of 80 m. It no longer met the growing demands for the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo , which is why it had to be rebuilt in 1969/70. The entire system was moved about ten meters to the east, the inrun lane was dug into the slope by up to seven meters and the capacity of the grandstands increased to 50,000. The renovation was budgeted at 753 million yen (equivalent to 6.941 million euros in September 2018). The hill now had a K-point of 110 m and was given its current name Ōkurayama .

In 1982 the system was expanded to include a modern chairlift, followed by an expansion from K110 to K115 in 1986. In 1995 the hill became the property of the city of Sapporo after it had previously been state property. In 1996 the hill was extended to K120 and a year later covered with plastic matting to equip it for year-round operation; a floodlight system was also installed . With a view to the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2007 , the stadium and hill were once again brought up to date with the latest technology. Since a minor renovation in 2016, the ski jump has its current size.
