Stephan Zünd (born July 3, 1969 in Zurich ) is a former Swiss ski jumper . He was one of the pioneers of the V style .

Career

He made his debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup on February 7, 1990 in St. Moritz . On 16./18. February he first reached an eighth and then a third place in Val di Fiemme . He was twenty-first in the overall season standings. The following two winters were the most successful of his career. He reached second place in the 1990/91 season and fifth place in the overall World Cup in 1991/92 .

In the following years he could not build on these successes; only in 1994 did he once again achieve a top ranking in the ski flying world championship with sixth place. In order to reduce his competition weight, Zünd severely restricted his calorie intake at times. After the end of his career in 1996 he made his fight with weight public and criticized the mania for slimness in ski jumping. His criticism became one of the impulses for the discussion about a stronger regulation of weight-related competitive advantages in ski jumping, which then led to an adjustment of the ski length to the body mass index in 2004 .

Zünd completed a law degree , trained as a lawyer and has worked for a bank in the Principality of Liechtenstein since 2005 .
