The Große Zirmbergschanze is a ski jump near the Upper Bavarian municipality of Ruhpolding in the Chiemgau Alps . It has a hill size of 128 and a construction point of 115 meters and is located in the Chiemgau-Arena , where there are other ski jumps up to a hill size of 100 meters (Toni-Plenk-Schanze). A Nordic Combined World Cup took place on it from 2005 to 2007 . A world cup in ski jumping also took place there in 1992.

history

The first ski jumps in Ruhpolding were built in the 1920s. A 90-meter large hill (today's Great Zirmbergschanze) was built on Zirmberg in 1961/62, on which the German Ski Jumping Championships were held for the first time in 1963 . As part of these championships, Helmut Wegscheider jumped the first hill record in the three-digit meter range with 101 meters. Today's Toni-Plenk-Schanze was built as the second largest ski jump in the Ruhpolding complex and opened in January 1968 as part of the Chiemgau Championships. Both jumps were completely rebuilt in 1980. The Große Zirmbergschanze underwent a complete renovation in 1999. The slope was re-profiled and the construction point increased from 107 to 115 meters. During this construction project, the Toni Plenk ski jump right next to it was also enlarged, its construction point has been 90 meters since then, the hill size 100 meters. The K 40 and K 20 are the only hills covered with plastic mattings. In 2004 a ski jump was built for the large hill. The only ski jumping World Cup to date took place on the then K 107 in 1992 . In 2001, 2002 and 2003 competitions of the Ski Jumping Continental Cup were planned. However, only the two competitions were held in March 2003. In the previous two years, the competitions had to be canceled due to weather conditions. A Nordic Combined World Cup has been held every year since 2005 . The hill record of 133 meters is currently held by the German Nordic combined athlete Ronny Ackermann from 2005. Felix Schoft set the hill record on the Toni Plenk hill with 102 meters on February 10, 2007 during the German Junior Championships.
