Morten Solem (born August 5, 1980 in Trondheim ) is a former Norwegian ski jumper and today's ski jumping coach. He started during his active time for the Norwegian ski club Trondhjems skiklubb Trønderhopp and in 2001 became Norwegian master in ski jumping.
Career
After he was used on September 12, 1999 in the team competition in Hakuba , which was held as part of the Ski Jumping Grand Prix 2000 , and finished ninth with the Norwegian team, he made his debut in the ski jumping World Cup on November 24, 2000 . At the World Cup in Kuopio , he finished the competition in 16th place. As part of the Four Hills Tournament he was able to take 16th place again in jumping in Oberstdorf on December 29, 2000. His best result in the 2000/01 season was on March 9, 2001 in his hometown. When jumping from Granåsen , he finished twelfth. At the end of the season he finished 45th overall with a total of 73 points.
At the Ski Jumping Grand Prix 2001 he could not build on the performances from the winter season and only collected World Cup points when jumping in Stams with 29th place. At the end of the Grand Prix he finished in 62nd place overall. At the beginning of the season he started in the Continental Cup and on December 28, 2001 won the Continental Cup in Engelberg ahead of Stefan Thurnbichler from Austria and the Japanese Teppei Takano . On February 9, 2002, he finished second behind Jörg Ritzerfeld and ahead of Frank Löffler at the Continental Cup in Gallio . At the end of the season he finished 20th in the Continental Cup with a total of 365 points. In contrast, he only collected 10 points in the World Cup and finished 67th in the overall World Cup at the end of the season.
In the 2002/03 season he was used almost exclusively in the Continental Cup and was able to win a total of four Continental Cup competitions. He also stood off the podium three more times. At the end of the season he finished second in the overall ranking of the Continental Cup behind Stefan Thurnbichler . The 2003/04 season was the most successful for him in the World Cup. After he finished 16th at the World Cup in Liberec on January 10, 2004 , he was able to achieve his first top 10 result one day later when jumping from Ještěd "A" with seventh place. On the Heini-Klopfer ski jumping hill in Oberstdorf he was able to make his longest jump on February 6, 2004 with a distance of 185.5 meters. At the end of the season he finished 30th in the overall World Cup, his best result of his career. At the Four Hills Tournament 2003/04 he also achieved his best result with 30th place.
On September 21, 2004 he started at the Continental Cup in his hometown. At the Lysgårdsbakken summer competition he won ahead of the German Ferdinand Bader and his team-mate Daniel Forfang . In the 2004/05 season he started at the World Cup in Sapporo and was able to achieve a top ten result there on both February 5th and 6th, 2005 with eighth place each. In the 2005/06 season he was used again mainly in the Continental Cup. On February 5, 2006 he was able to win another Continental Cup and he prevailed in Villach ahead of Marcin Bachleda from Poland and the Austrian Gerald Wambacher . At the end of the season he finished second in the overall standings behind his team colleague Anders Bardal .
After the 2006/07 season , Solem ended his career as an active jumper. But that season he was able to win another jumping in Engelberg in the Continental Cup . He prevailed on December 28, 2006 ahead of Mathias Hafele from Austria and Kamil Stoch from Poland. At the Continental Cup in his home town of Trondheim, he finished third on March 3, 2007 and second on March 4. He completed his last competition in the World Cup on March 13, 2007 in Kuopio and had to enjoy himself with 50th place. He finished the 2006/07 season in the Continental Cup in second place behind Balthasar Schneider in the overall standings . Since May 2007 jumping trainer for the Nordic combined in Trondheim.
