Takano did his first international jumping on September 5, 2001 in Sapporo as part of the Summer Grand Prix , which he finished 23rd. On December 15, 2001 he started for the first time in the Continental Cup in Lahti, Finland and was able to achieve COC points in his first competition. In the second competition he even came in fifth. Because of this performance he was nominated for the World Cup jumping in Predazzo on December 21 and reached the 43rd place on the large hill. Only five days later he was able to win his first COC competition in St. Moritz .
On January 25, 2003, he won his first World Cup points at the World Cup jumping in Sapporo with 16th place on the large hill. It was also the highest individual placement in a World Cup competition so far in his career. On February 9, it was able to improve this again with ninth place in Willingen . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2003 in Val di Fiemme , he reached 26th place on the normal hill. A week later he was in the World Cup team competition in the Norwegian Oslo together with Kazuyoshi Funaki , Hideharu Miyahira and Noriaki Kasai reach the fourth place.
In the 2003/04 season, Takano almost exclusively competed in the Continental Cup . On July 25, 2003, he achieved his second COC victory in Park City . In the 2003/04 World Cup he only took part in Sapporo. He finished 49th and 17th. In the summer of 2004 he took part in the COC jumping competition for the last time . His only international competitions in winter 2004/05 were two FIS races in his home town of Sapporo in March 2005.
In 2006 and 2007, an FIS Cup jumping competition, which was held in Sapporo in March of that year, was the only FIS competition in which he participated. In March 2008 and 2009 he started again at the FIS races in Sapporo, which were his last international ski jumping competitions.
