history

In 1447, the Prince-Bishop of Trento Georg Hack granted the residents the greatest possible degree of self-government with the Regola feudale . The Predazzo regola belongs to the valley municipality of Fleims . With the dissolution of the prince-bishopric, after the Napoleonic era from 1815 to 1919, Predazzo belonged to the Princes of Tyrol and thus to the Habsburg monarchy . In 1819 the geologist Giuseppe Marzari Pencati made a discovery here that significantly influenced the then prevailing understanding of geology when, contrary to the prevailing theory, he found older rock strata lying on top of younger strata. As a result, Predazzo was the target of numerous field investigations and visited by Leopold von Buch , Alexander von Humboldt and Maria Matilda Ogilvie Gordon, among others .

Until the First World War , Predazzo was a garrison of the k. u. k. Army , in 1914 the 2nd Battalion of the Tyrolean Rifle Regiment No. III was located here .

Until 1963, the place was the terminus for the Fiemme Valley Railway , built during the First World War .
