San Giovanni di Fassa ( Ladin Sèn Jan ) is an Italian commune with 3561 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Trento ( Trentino-Alto Adige region ). It is the seat of the valley community Comun General de Fascia .
geography
The municipality of San Giovanni di Fassa is a scattered municipality in the central Fassa Valley . The municipal seat in Pozza di Fassa is about 58 kilometers north-northeast of Trento . The municipality is bordered by the Rosengarten group to the west and the Marmolata group to the east . The Avisio flows through the municipality .
history
The municipality was created on January 1, 2018 with the name Sèn Jan di Fassa from the merger of the previously independent municipalities Pozza di Fassa and Vigo di Fassa . In November 2018, the Italian Constitutional Court declared the mixed Ladin and Italian-speaking community names to be illegal, as they contradicted the laws of linguistically separate toponomics laid down in the region's statute of autonomy .

traffic
The state road SS 241, coming from Eggental , runs through the municipal area , which in this area coincides with the historic Great Dolomites Road and ends at San Giovanni in the state road 48 delle Dolomiti coming from Auer .
