Dro ( German outdated Drau ) is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 5117 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Trento , region of Trentino-South Tyrol . It belongs to the valley community Comunità Alto Garda e Ledro .

geography

Dro is located about 20 kilometers southwest of Trento and ten kilometers north of Lake Garda on the orographic left side of the Sarca river in the Sarca valley of the same name. The surrounding mountains reach over 2000 meters. In the municipality are the Marocche , a huge block field that was created by a landslide . A little north of the Marocche is the Cavedinesee .

Administrative division

The parish belonged to the Arco judicial district and was part of the Riva district until the end of the First World War . In addition to the municipal seat in Dro, the municipality also has two further fractions : Pietramurata north and Ceniga south of Dro.

traffic

Dro is on the state road 45 to Gardesana Occidentale , which extends from Trento along the western shore of Lake Garda to Cremona .

Sports

At Pietramurata there is a nationally important motocross track. The world championships were held here for the first time in 2009 . Also worth mentioning are the diverse climbing opportunities on the rock faces near the village.
