Castello Tesino (German outdated: Castelalt ), is a Trentino municipality in the region of Trentino-South Tyrol with 1182 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

geography

The place is 40 km east of Trento on the eastern edge of the Tesinotal ( Bassa Valsugana e Tesino ), a lower valley of the Valsugana . It is located at the southern end of Passo Brocon below the mountains Monte Picosta (1421 meters) and Mont'Agaro and is part of the valley community Comunità Valsugana e Tesino . The Roman road Via Claudia Augusta runs through the village .

The districts of Cainari, Coronini, Lissa and Roa belong to the municipality .

Neighboring municipalities are Arsiè ( BL ), Canal San Bovo , Cinte Tesino , Grigno , Lamon (BL), Pieve Tesino and Scurelle .

history

The first settlements took place in the time before the Romans . Traces from the 5th century BC BC can still be found on the hill of Colle di San Ippolito . In Roman times, the place gained importance because it was on the Roman road Via Claudia Augusta Altinate , which led from Altinum to Augsburg .

  • Grotta di Castello Tesino , cave discovered in 1926 at 960 meters above sea level, which is also called Bus de la Lora . The cave has a length of 256 meters.
