Volano (German outdated: Nussdorf ; in the Trentino dialect: Volam or Òlam ) is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 3023 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Trento in the Trentino-South Tyrol region . The community is located about 13 kilometers south of Trento on the Adige . Volano is part of the valley community Comunità della Vallagarina .

The community was first mentioned in a document in 590 AD in the Historia Langobardorum by Paulus Diaconus as Avolano or Avolani .
