Drena (German outdated Drenn) is an Italian municipality with 585 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) about ten kilometers north of Lake Garda and 25 kilometers southwest of Trento in the valley of the Salagonibach, a side valley of the Sarca river . The surrounding mountains reach over 2000 meters.
At the beginning of the side valley, 250 meters above the Sarca valley, is Castel Drena , which was owned by the Counts of Arco until 1981 and has since been owned by the municipality. The parish belonged to the Arco judicial district and was part of the Riva district until the end of the First World War .
Below the castle is a gorge washed out by the Rio Salagoni , through which the Salagoni via ferrata of the same name runs.
Drena has been partnered with the Upper Franconian municipality of Hallerndorf since 1989 . The reason for the partnership were numerous visits by individual families from Hallerndorf in Drena.
