history

Until the 19th century

The first traces of settlement in the area of today's Hallerndorf can be traced back to around 100 BC. The remains of a small village excavated in 2015 were probably a Celtic settlement .

The name "Hadelongendorf" and 1140 "Hadelovgendorf" can be traced back to the year 1130, but the place emerged as a rural settlement as early as the 8th century. The place name in its current spelling was first mentioned in a document in 1334. Like the surrounding communities, Hallerndorf belonged to the diocese of Würzburg until 1018, until it became part of the newly founded diocese of Bamberg in 1018 .

After Hallerndorf had belonged to the rule of the Schlüsselbergs from 1315 , it joined Bamberg after the death of the last Schlüsselberger. The longest phase in Hallerndorf's rule was occupied by the nobles of the von Seckendorff manor , who had their seat there from the middle of the 15th to the middle of the 17th century. A moated castle came from them, the remains of which can be seen in the village. The castle was destroyed by farmers in 1525 during the Peasant Wars. After the uprising was put down, it was rebuilt with the help of payments from the peasants. The sources speak of two locks (upper and lower lock), but their existence is not certain. Possibly a higher situated main castle and a lower situated outer castle are meant.

Hallerndorf was badly damaged during the Thirty Years' War . The clash of Swedish and Bamberg troops caused the deaths of many citizens and the destruction of the castle, which subsequently fell into disrepair. A division of the village into an upper and a lower half of the village has been known since 1586. While the upper half was transferred to the Bamberg Monastery in 1688 , the Counts of Schönborn inherited the lower half in 1717 . After secularization , the place became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1803 .

Incorporations

On January 1, 1972, the previously independent communities Hallerndorf and Willersdorf were merged to form the new community Hallerndorf. On January 1, 1974, Schnaid was added. Pautzfeld, Schlammersdorf and Trailsdorf followed on May 1, 1978.

Breweries and viticulture

In Hallerndorf and the surrounding area, the cultivation of wine dominated until the Thirty Years War . The Seusslinger Chronik reports on 4,000 vines on the Trailsdorf Leimberg and 3,000 on the Galgenberg. The cultivation of hops pushed back viticulture. Today, however, there are no more hop fields in the region.

Considering the size of the community, the number of breweries located there is remarkable. Beer was brewed in the town as early as the 15th century . The Rittmayer brewery was founded in 1422, making it one of the oldest breweries in Forchheimer Land. Up until the Second World War there were eight breweries, including a castle brewery (lower castle). Today there are still the following six breweries:
