history

Weilersbach (first mentioned between 1007 and 1062) and Reifenberg (first mentioned in 1140) belonged to the Bamberg Monastery , which was part of the Franconian Empire from 1500 onwards . Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, the place, like large parts of Franconia, has belonged to Bavaria (see also History of Franconia ). In the course of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria , the municipal edict of 1818 created the municipalities of Oberweilersbach, Unterweilersbach and Reifenberg. The three independent municipalities merged on July 1, 1970 during the regional reform to form the municipality of Weilersbach. This was the first voluntary amalgamation of individual communities to form a large community in Bavaria.
