Dormitz is a municipality in the district of Forchheim ( administrative district of Upper Franconia ). The main town is the seat of the administrative community in Dormitz .

Geographical location
Dormitz is about 10 kilometers east of Erlangen and 15 kilometers north of Nuremberg . The Franconian Marienweg runs through the village .

history
Dormitz was mentioned for the first time in 1142 and 1146 in two documents, in which a Siegfried called himself “Sigefridus de dorenbenze” (Middle High German for thorn meadow) or “Sigefrid de dornbenze”. The place belonged to the bishopric of Bamberg until the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 . The Hohenzollern principality of Bayreuth and the imperial city of Nuremberg also had possessions in the municipality. Since then, the place has belonged to Bavaria.

Culture and sights
Buildings
- The church "To Our Lady" was built around 1400 as a fortified church and was first mentioned on June 29, 1416. However, the fortifications were dismantled in the 19th century. The church contains numerous Gothic works of art. In the 1720s, Georg Sebastian Urlaub created a stucco ceiling that is in great need of renovation in the 21st century. In November 2017, part of the fresco fell into the nave after the wooden substructure gave way. The renovation measures are to begin in early 2020.
