Kalchreuth (colloquially: Kʰolchraet ) is a municipality in the Central Franconian district of Erlangen-Höchstadt .

geography

Geographical location

The community is located about ten kilometers northeast of Nuremberg and southeast of Erlangen on a ridge of the Sebalder Reichswald . The place is also called the cherry village because of the numerous cherry trees . Kalchreuth lies on an elongated ridge of the Black Jura (Lias), which forms part of the Franconian layer level country . The Kalchreuther Forest to the west and south of the village is a popular excursion area. The place name is derived from the nature of the subsoil (Kalch = lime ) and from the origin as a clearing island in the Sebalder Reichswald (Reuth = clearing ).

The promising location and the proximity to Nuremberg make the place a popular destination, especially on weekends and summer evenings, with visits to the numerous restaurants.

history

Until the church is planted

Albrecht Dürer, View of Kalchreuth (ca.1511)

The place was first mentioned in 1298 as "Kalkrevt". The place name means clearing on calcareous soil . The Barons Haller von Hallerstein lived in Kalchreuth from 1342 to 1850 and had sole rule in the place until 1465, before the city of Nuremberg took over sovereignty. As part of the area of the imperial city of Nuremberg (with partly Ansbach rights) Kalchreuth was taken over by Prussia in 1796. In the Peace of Tilsit in 1807, the Prussian Principality of Brandenburg-Bayreuth came under French administration. With the Paris Treaty of 1810, Kalchreuth in what is now the Middle Franconia district came from France to the Kingdom of Bavaria .

As part of the municipal edict (early 19th century), the Kalchreuth tax district was formed, to which Gabermühle , Großgeschaidt , Habernhofermühle , Käswasser , Kleingeschaidt , Langenbruckermühle , Minderleinsmühle , Röckenhof , Stettenberg and Wolfsfelden belonged. With the second community edict (1818) the following rural communities were formed:

  • Großgeschaidt;
  • Kalchreuth with Gabermühle, Käswasser, Minderleinsmühle, Stettenberg and Wolfsfelden;
  • Kleingeschaidt;
  • Röckenhof;
  • Habernhofermühle and Langenbruckermühle to the rural community of Weiher .

The administration and jurisdiction of the municipality of Kalchreuth was subordinate to the Erlangen Regional Court and to the Erlangen Rent Office (from 1920 Erlangen Tax Office ). From 1862 Kalchreuth was administered by the Erlangen District Office (renamed the Erlangen District in 1938 ). The jurisdiction remained until 1879 the District Court Erlangen, from 1880 at the district court Erlangen . The community originally had an area of 9.470 km².

Incorporations

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent community of Röckenhof was incorporated.

Mayor Hans Sulzer congratulates Ursula Lindstedt on accepting her coat of arms for the municipality of Kalchreuth.

In the municipality sheet Kalchreuth of June 1, 1980, the municipality citizens were asked for suggestions for an appealing municipal coat of arms. The mayor Hans Sulzer, together with the local council, selected Ursula Lindstedt's coat of arms from among many proposals. On December 10, 1981, the coat of arms for the municipality of Kalchreuth was approved by the government of Middle Franconia .

Justification of the coat of arms: In the first field is the family coat of arms of the Barons Haller von Hallerstein , who lived in Kalchreuth from 1342 to 1850 and held sole rule in the place until 1465. The lion in the second field is the heraldic figure of the burgraves of Nuremberg , which Kalchreuth acquired in 1298. The St. Andrew's cross in the third field indicates the parish church which was consecrated to St. Andrew . The cherry blossom in the fourth field represents the location of the community in the well-known Franconian cherry-growing area.

Buildings

West side of the castle and church
Castle

The Sankt-Andreas-Kirche and the neighboring Hallerschloss (a former moated castle of the Nuremberg patrician family Haller von Hallerstein , which they owned from 1395 to 1850) form an important architectural ensemble. The Rudolf Schiestl Society was located in the castle restaurant . The castle still houses an inn to this day.

The church, which was built in 1471 in Gothic style, is widely famous for its largely late medieval furnishings with the choir donated by the Haller family in 1494 , which includes the shrine altar from the workshop of Michael Wolgemut , Albrecht Dürer's teacher . Just as famous is Adam Kraft's nine meter high sacrament house carved from sandstone . The oldest and most famous work of art are the twelve Tonapostel above the choir stalls, which have been preserved and are only available in full in Kalchreuth.

The so-called "Schlösschen" is a two-storey sandstone block building with a hipped roof from the second half of the 18th century. The Nuremberg citizen Matthäus Sauermann is said to have built his own seat here in 1492, which was burned down in the Second Margrave War in 1552/53. In 1684, the Nuremberg council had a half-timbered upper storey built to set up a forester's apartment. In 1716 the house was sold to Georg Karl Imhoff . In 1759 Ernst Imhoff built a stone upper floor with a hipped roof, profiled eaves cornice and dormer windows in the shape that has been preserved to this day. Imhoff sold the property to the Wölckern family in 1763. In 1845 the Kingdom of Bavaria acquired the seat and set up a forestry service in it. Today there is a hotel in the restored building.

Regular events

The Kärwa always takes place on the second weekend in August. Every year at this time, the rivalry flares up between the Maslas Boum (boys) from the Gasthof Meisel and the Metzgersboum from the Red Ox. The Fässla ausgrom is a centuries-old tradition . The point is that the Boum from one side bury several barrels near the Boum from the other side. The goal is to find one or more barrels from the other party. The team that found more barrels “won the parish fair”. If no barrel is found, the number of barrels buried decides. The deadline is the church fair Sunday, on which all barrels are dug up again.

The Kirschkerwa takes place on the first Sunday in July . The festival was launched in 1974 by the Bund Naturschutz as part of the cherry project to protect the orchards. From noon there will be information and sales stands on the topic of cherries and nature (conservation) in the Kirschwiesen on Erlanger Straße . Entertainment is provided with cherry pit spitting, music and activities such as sheep shearing.

Economy and Infrastructure

Business

In the municipality of Kalchreuth there are currently (at the end of 2007) just under 300 commercial enterprises (craft, trade, industry and services) active. The largest companies are medium-sized. This includes the Minderleinsmühle in the district of the same name, which has existed since 1620 and is a special bakery that produces gluten-free and lactose-free products for celiac patients.

traffic

Kalchreuth has a stop on the single-track Graefenbergbahn (R21). Before the general renovation of the line in the 1990s, there was a station with a second track for oncoming traffic.

The national road 2243 proceeds to state highway 2240 at Weiher (4,5 km northwest) or after Heroldsberg to national road 2 (2.5 km south-east). The district road ERH 6 / N 3 runs to Neunhof (7 km southwest) or to Röckenhof (1.25 km northeast). The district road ERH 10 runs via Käswasser (1 km east) to Großgeschaidt to the B 2 (3 km east).

The Franconian Marienweg runs through Kalchreuth .
