Wolf-Armin von Reitzenstein

Wolf-Armin Freiherr von Reitzenstein (born April 26, 1940 in Munich ) is a lecturer in Bavarian naming at the Institute for Bavarian History at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and editor of the papers for Upper German name research .

Life

The descendant of the Upper Franconian noble family of the von Reitzenstein studied after graduating from the Maximiliansgymnasium in Munich from 1960 to 1966 classical philology , history and place-name studies as well as German at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität. In 1968 he was elected to the board of the Association for Field Name Research in Bavaria and took over editorial responsibility for the journal Blätter for Upper German Name Research . About studies on the Roman Ortsnamengebung he was in 1970 for Dr. phil. PhD.

From 1972 von Reitzenstein worked in the grammar school service at the aforementioned grammar school and in the same year received a teaching position for place name studies at the Institute for Bavarian History at LMU Munich. Since 1977 von Reitzenstein was co-editor, from 1981 responsible editor of the papers for Upper German name research . In the same year, von Reitzenstein took over the editing of the historical place-name book of Bavaria for the Commission for Bavarian State History at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

The Henning Kaufmann Foundation for the promotion of German name research based on linguistic history elected von Reitzenstein to its board in 1982. The series Die Flurnamen Bayerns appeared from 1982 under his editorship.

Von Reitzenstein received international recognition in 1984 when he was elected to the International Committee for Onomastic Sciences . Three years later, he was appointed full member of the Commission for Bavarian State History . In 1989 von Reitzenstein was elected to the Society for Franconian History .

Von Reitzenstein has been a member of the German Society for onomastics since 1991 . From 1992 he received further lectureships at the Catholic University of Eichstätt and at the Universities of Passau and Augsburg .
