Statistical handbook and address book of Middle Franconia in the Kingdom of Bavaria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The statistical handbook and address book of Middle Franconia in the Kingdom of Bavaria is a directory compiled by the government official Eduard Vetter, which was first published in 1846 by the author. Updated editions appeared in 1856 and 1864.

Edition from 1846

The first part of the edition from 1846 contains a list of the regional courts and rulership courts of Middle Franconia in alphabetical order. Each of these administrative units in turn contains a list of the rural or municipal communities in alphabetical order . For each of these communities there is information on the type of place, possibly districts, parish and school affiliation, residents, number of families, houses, religious affiliation, resident professional groups and other things. These data are based on the manuscript of the royal statistical bureau "Cadastre of the localities, the population and the buildings" from 1840.

In a second part there is a systematically structured list of all officials who were active in the Central Franconia administrative district at that time. At the end there is a place register of all places in alphabetical order.

Edition from 1856

The structure of the 1856 edition is identical to the first edition. A full update is only available for the second part. In the first part, only larger places are updated according to the surveys of the royal statistical bureau from 1852. Smaller communities and parts of communities are only updated under the heading community leaders, occasionally also in the population, but not on the basis of the surveys from 1852. As a rule for this the data from the first edition are simply taken over.

Edition from 1864

The structure of the 1864 edition is essentially identical to the first edition. A full update is only available for the second part. The first part contains a list of the district offices of Middle Franconia in alphabetical order. The resident professional groups are no longer mentioned. The basis for the survey of the population is unclear. In any event, they are not based on any of the censuses taken in 1855, 1858, 1861, or 1864.

Critical remarks

The distinction between the types of places is very arbitrary. The publisher does not provide any information about the underlying rules. A check shows that as a guide: Einöd (mühl) e (1 to 2 houses), Weiler (3 to 12 houses), village (13 houses and more). However, the exceptions are very numerous and sometimes very different. It is also possible that the respective classification was not made by the publisher himself. Individual regional courts seem to follow different standards. Particularly noticeable, for example, is the district court of Leutershausen , in which places - sometimes with up to 19 houses ( Eyerlohe ) - were still classified as hamlets, which is only rarely the case in other district courts (e.g. Ansbach , Heilsbronn . The only exception there: Göddeldorf with 16 houses hamlet).

Remarks

  1. Town , market , parish village , church village , village , hamlet , wasteland , wasteland mill.
  2. Only buildings that are inhabited are counted as houses.
  3. Community leader, distance to the next larger town, number of markets held.
  4. As far as the number of inhabitants is concerned, there is almost complete agreement with the results of the census of December 3, 1840 by the German Customs Union , from which it can be concluded that the data must have been collected in the same year.
