history
Uttenreuth was created in the 12th century when the Reichsland was expanded to include Nuremberg. On June 29, 1334, the place was first mentioned as "ůtenreůt". The place name means "for clearing (= -reuth ) the Uto".
Through the Anabaptist messenger Hans Hut , the Uttenreuth Anabaptist community came into being at the end of the 1520s . The so-called Uttenreuth dreamers emerged from it around 1530 , an apocalyptic religious community that caused a sensation mainly because of its “spiritual marriages”.
As part of the community edict (early 19th century), the tax district Uttenreuth was formed, to which Adlitz , Atzelsberg , Buckenhof , Eggenhof , Rathsberg , Rosenbach , Schneckenhof , Spardorf , Sieglitzhof , Weiher , Weißenberg and Wunderburg belonged. With the second community edict (1818) the following rural communities were formed:
- Adlitz with Schneckenhof;
- Atzelsberg with Rahtsberg;
- Buckenhof;
- Rosenbach;
- Spardorf with Sieglitzhof;
- Uttenreuth with Eggenhof, Weißenberg and Wunderburg;
- Pond with Habernhofermühle and Langenbruckermühle .
The municipality of Uttenreuth was under the administration and jurisdiction of the Erlangen district court and the tax office in Erlangen (from 1920 tax office Erlangen ). Wunderburg was moved to Marloffstein after 1840, but before 1861 . From 1862 Uttenreuth was administered by the Erlangen District Office (renamed the Erlangen District in 1938 ). The jurisdiction remained until 1879 the District Court Erlangen, from 1880 at the district court Erlangen . The community originally had an area of 4.226 km².
Incorporations
On May 1, 1978, the previously independent community of Weiher was incorporated.

badges and flags
The Uttenreuth community has had a coat of arms since 1978.
Blazon : "Above a golden wave shield base , inside a black mill wheel below, two diagonally crossed golden rods in red, covered by a silver heraldic lily , on the right and left side by a golden star ."
White and red municipal flag |
|
Justification of the coat of arms: The two reeds point to the origin of the settlement as a clearing settlement, the mill wheel indicates the location on the Schwabach, the two stars are taken from the family coat of arms of Johann Friedrich Esper, who was a pastor in Uttenreuth and a paleonthologist. The colors "red / silver" and "gold / black" indicate the former border location between Brandenburg-Bayreuth and the diocese of Bamberg . |
Community partnerships
-
France : St.Grégoire near Rennes , since 1992. St.-Grégoire-Platz, at the corner of Saegmüllerstraße-Esperstraße, is named after the partner municipality.
traffic
The national road 2240 runs west about Buckenhof (1.75 km) After obtaining the junction 32 of the motorway 73 (6 km) and east about Weiher (1.75 km) After Dormitz (3.5 km). The district road ERH 7 runs north to Marloffstein to state road 2242 (2.5 km). A community road runs northeast to Rosenbach (1.75 km).
There is a good bus connection to Erlangen with line 209 of the OVF . The closest train station is the train station in Erlangen. Uttenreuth used to have its own train station on the Seku , the Erlangen – Graefenberg secondary line , which has been closed in the Uttenreuth area since the end of 1963. On April 19, 2015, a referendum took place on the implementation of a city-suburban railway in the Erlangen-Höchstadt district. 61% of the citizens of Uttenreuth / Weiher and 57% of the citizens of the Erlangen-Höchstadt district spoke out against the realization of the city-surrounding railway (T-Netz).
Bypass
For decades, the construction of a bypass through the Sebalder Reichswald for the road from Erlangen to Graefenberg or Eckental was a contentious issue. The struggle between environmentalists and proponents of the so-called southern bypass began as early as the 1970s. In 2006, the Bavarian State Government issued an ordinance to designate almost the entire Nuremberg Reich Forest as a European bird sanctuary , which is why the State Building Authority considered the route at the edge of the forest to be legally inadmissible for nature conservation reasons . In 2007, the citizens of Uttenreuth and Weiher were asked about this in a referendum on May 20, 2007. A small majority of the citizens were in favor of realizing the "southern bypass". There was no majority among the citizens for the local alternative route, which should run north of Weiher. In June 2012, for example, it became known that the previous plan approval procedure was finally being discontinued. However, improvements were promised through noise-reducing asphalt along the existing route and the elimination of bottlenecks.
economy
The meat factory Bär (Seku) once shaped the economy of Uttenreuth. Until bankruptcy in 1966, it produced canned meat and sausage in a large area, including for the Bundeswehr and formerly the Reichswehr. Seku had its own train station there, which is still there. Of the operation, which stretched from Marloffsteiner to Breslauer Straße, bounded by Erlanger Straße in the south and Schleifweg in the north, only the administration buildings on Marloffsteiner Straße, which serve as a medical center and service area, have been preserved.
The Standard Elektrik Lorenz (SEL) produced in Uttenreuth; the last buildings (gatehouse and a production building) at the end of the grinding path were demolished in 2005/2006. Like the area of the Bär meat factory, the land is now built on.
Many employees of the Siemens company in Erlangen settled in Uttenreuth and form a large group in the population.
Buildings
Buildings worth seeing are the Protestant St. Matthew's Church (1765/1766) and the Black Eagle , which was built in 1516 as an inn and brewery. Today it is a hotel and restaurant. The parish barn from the years 1715/16 in Esperstrasse, owned by the Protestant parish, has also been preserved; it serves as a deaconry station. The representative parsonage of the Protestant community from 1914/15 right next to the parish barn is also noteworthy for its striking facade.
Sports
Sports club SC Uttenreuth, founded in 1923; the clubhouse is at the end of Breslauer Straße. The original clubhouse known as Hasenheim had to give way to the new Liegnitzer Straße development area. The second major sports club is the Fitness Forum e. V. with a wide range for all age groups in many areas of popular sports.
Religious communities
In Uttenreuth there is the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Matthäus and the Catholic parish of St. Kunigunde. An ecumenical partnership agreement has existed between the two congregations since 2011.
Uttenreuth is the founding place of the oldest Christian student union in Germany, the C. St. V. Uttenruthia Erlangen (1836). Two coats of arms commemorate the association, one on the Black Eagle's bay window, the other is embedded in Saegmüllerstrasse, shortly after the intersection with Marloffsteiner Strasse, where the war memorial is also located.
education
The Uttenreuth elementary school, today on Breslauer Straße, formerly at the Matthäuskirche, two old school buildings (the old school , today mainly used by the Singverein, and another older sandstone building from the 19th century) are still preserved. The community library is attached to the gym between today's elementary school and the clubhouse of SC Uttenreuth.
Since November 2013, a public bookcase has been set up in the former bus shelter in front of the beverage market at Erlanger Straße 18. Use is possible around the clock - free of charge for everyone.
