The Holtriem wind farm is a wind farm in the East Frisian municipality of Holtriem and is located in the area of ​​the member municipalities of Westerholt , Schweindorf and Nenndorf . The wind farm opened in 1998 was the largest wind farm in Europe when it opened. It is operated by the wind farm Norderland GmbH & Co. Holtriemer Hammrich I .

Characteristics

The wind farm has been in operation since 1998. However, the wind farm is currently still in a construction phase. Some Enercon E-115 systems have been installed since the end of 2016 . These should be fully operational in 2018. The wind farm has 40 wind turbines of the type Enercon E-66 . In mid-2005 the wind farm was expanded by four Enercon E-70 and three Enercon E-48 turbines . Twenty-eight Enercon E-82s were installed in 2009 . A couple of Enercon E-115 systems were added later . At the beginning of 2017 4 Enercon E-101 were put into operation. The installed electrical output is 207 megawatts

Wind turbine with viewing platform

As a special feature, one of the E-66 systems is designed as a wind turbine with a viewing platform and is accessible to the public. A spiral staircase with 297 steps takes visitors to the glazed viewing platform at a height of 65 meters.
