Historical register of municipalities (Bavaria)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The historical municipality register was published by the Bavarian State Statistical Office in 1954. The full title reads: “Historical Community Directory. The population of the municipalities of Bavaria in the period from 1840 to 1952, issue 192 of the articles on Bavaria's statistics. "

Work description

The work summarizes the population figures for the period from 1840 to 1952 for Bavaria , the administrative districts , the districts or urban districts and the municipalities or community-free areas . The sources used were the official municipal registers for Bavaria , which had been published up to that point and which in turn were based on census results (1855, 1861, 1867, 1871, 1875, 1880, 1885, 1900, 1905, 1910, 1919, 1925, 1933, 1939, 1946, 1950 ). Information is supplemented by the “Cadastre of the localities, the population and the buildings”, which appeared in 1840 and 1852, and also an extrapolation of the resident population calculated on the basis of the 1950 census results for the key date December 31, 1952 is.

For the municipalities, the information is limited to the period in which they belonged to Bavaria. For example, the population of the administrative district of Palatinate is no longer available after 1945 or there is no information for the district of Coburg before 1920. Municipalities that were dissolved before 1858 are not listed. Rather, they are offset against the communities in which they were incorporated. As a result, the population figures in these communities are actually incorrect. On page 8 of the work the municipalities that were dissolved during this period are listed, so that one can determine the actual number of inhabitants by subtracting them.

The administrative regions appear in the order Upper Bavaria , Lower Bavaria , Palatinate , Upper Palatinate , Upper Franconia , Middle Franconia , Lower Franconia , Swabia . In the respective administrative districts, the independent cities are found first, then the districts in alphabetical order, which in turn contain an alphabetical list of the municipalities. There may be additional information about the renaming of municipalities or their re-municipality with indication of the date. If a municipality has been reclassified to another district, the information on the number of inhabitants will be split up according to the date of the reassignment.

The addendum takes into account the changes in the community names for the period from January 1 to December 31, 1953 (p. 249); there is also a summary of the main changes in the area that took place in Bavaria between 1840 and 1952 ( Pp. 250-253).

In the alphabetical part (p. 255ff.), The individual communities are listed with the respective sources in the systematic part.
