The Nuits-sous-Ravières – Châtillon-sur-Seine railway is a single-track , standard-gauge , non-electrified railway line in France. In a south-west-north-east direction, it connects the Paris – Marseille line coming from Paris in the direction of Dijon and Lyon with the parallel Saint-Julien – Gray line . The line went into operation in 1864 and has been used exclusively for freight traffic since 1938. It is part of the inventory of the national railway company and is operated by the SNCF .
history
The Compagnie des chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée received final approval on April 11, 1857 and two months later to build and operate the line. The company that has just been founded tried to build a tightly knit network of railway infrastructure in this central region of France. The state guaranteed 4% interest and repayment of the invested capital for a period of 50 years. It opened in the summer of 1864, apparently on September 26th, 1864.
This route lay at the extreme northeastern edge of the area of activity of the PLM and bordered with the transition to the area of the also private Chemin de fer de l'Est , which mainly operates in Lorraine and Alsace . On the almost two-kilometer section of Sainte-Colombe-sur-Seine-Châtillon-sur-Seine, the two railway companies shared the infrastructure. The train station of Sainte-Colombe-sur-Seine , located a little outside the town, was inaugurated by the EST with the opening of the Saint-Julien – Gray railway in 1866. The second track for the whole route from Nuits to Colombe was added in 1879 and was dismantled again after the Second World War.
