history

Track diagram, height profile and kilometer table

The railway line went into operation on September 1, 1866. This was preceded by the application for the construction and operation as well as its approval by the Ministry of Agriculture, Finance and Public Works. This law authorized the Chemin de fer de l'Est (EST) to build and operate a large number of additional lines that considerably expanded their area of operation. In Châtillon-sur-Seine , the construction of this line created a connection to the route network of the Compagnie des chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée (PLM).

Contemporary German newspapers described this route, along with the Troyes – Gray railway line, as remarkable examples of the “unexpected speed and force” with which the French could stop a possible attack by German troops.

For the year 1920 two pairs of trains are documented on the entire route, which were en route for almost 1.5 hours.

After the takeover by the SNCF in 1938 this route was along with the in Châtillon-sur-Seine continuing railway Nuits-sous-Ravières-Châtillon-sur-Seine with the route number 25 7 administered as a unit. The transport of passengers was stopped as early as mid-April 1939, the handling of goods traffic continued. Courban 's traffic has been completely suspended since the mid-2010s . The two remaining sections of the route will continue to be used for the transport of agricultural bulk goods.
