Antonio Tartaglia (born January 13, 1969 in Casalbordino ) is a former Italian bobsleigh driver . Between 1992 and 2002 he took part in the Olympic Games for Italy four times . At the Olympic Winter Games in 1998 in Nagano, he won the gold medal in the two-man bobsleigh competition as Günther Huber's pusher .

Career

In 1992 Antonio Tartaglia was allowed to take part in the Winter Olympics for Italy for the first time , which took place in the French community of Albertville . There he started both in the two-man and four-man bobsleigh as a push for Pasquale Gesuito and finished twelfth with him in the two-man bobsleigh competition after four races. He took the same place as part of the Pasquale Gesuito team in the four-man bobsleigh competition.

In 1994 he took part in the European bobsleigh championships as Günther Huber's pusher in the four-man bobsleigh competition and the team won the gold medal ahead of Britten's bobsleigh Mark Tout and Dirk Wiese's bobsleigh . In addition, he was allowed to participate in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway , and again started as a pusher. In the two-man bobsleigh competition, he finished ninth as a pusher for Pasquale Gesuito after four runs. In the four-man bobsleigh competition, as in the European championship, he started as Günther Huber, who has already won the bronze medal in the two-man bobsleigh, and the team finished ninth after four runs.

In 1997 he was active as a pusher for Günther Huber at both the European bobsleigh championships and the world championships . At the European Championships in 1997 , which took place on the track in Königssee , he won the gold medal as Günther Huber's pusher, ahead of the German Sepp Dostthaler's bobsleigh and the Swiss Reto Götschi's bobsleigh . In addition, he and Günther Huber won the silver medal behind the Swiss bobsleigh by Reto Götschi and ahead of the American bobsleigh by Brian Shimer at the 1997 Bobsleigh World Championships at the Olympia Bobrun St. Moritz-Celerina .

In Igls , he and Günther Huber were unable to defend their title a year after their triumph at the European Championships. But they were able to win the bronze medal behind the bobsleigh of Swiss Reto Götschi and the bobsleigh of German Christoph Langen . He was also nominated for the third time by Italy for the Winter Olympics in 1998 . In Nagano , Japan , he competed in both the two-man and four-man bobsleigh as Günther Huber's pusher. In the two-man bobsleigh, Antonio Tartaglia and Günther Huber secured gold after four races, but at the same time as Pierre Lueders' Canadian bobsleigh . Third place went to Christoph Langen's German bobsleigh. In the four-man bobsleigh competition, Günther Huber's team could not intervene in the medal event and only finished 14th.

Antonio Tartaglia last took part in the Winter Olympic Games in 2002 . In Salt Lake City he only started in the two-man bobsleigh as Günther Huber's push. The two of them were unable to build on their Olympic victory four years ago in the two-man bobsleigh competition and only finished eighth.
