Cédric Grand (born January 14, 1976 in Geneva ) is a former Swiss athlete , bobsleigh athlete and today's bodybuilder .
Career
athletics
Grand competed in various competitions as a sprinter at national level from 1992 to 2000. In 1996 he became Swiss champion over 60 m, 100 m and 200 m. He also set a new Swiss record of 6.6 seconds that lasted until 1999. He also ran the 100 meters, with 10.44 seconds, the fastest time ever run in Swiss championships. In the preselection for the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney , he ran over 100 meters in 10.35 seconds and over 200 meters in 20.99 seconds. He did not appear at the games. It was his last athletics competitions.
Bobsleigh
Grand began bobsleigh in 1996 parallel to his athletics career. In 1997 he was accepted into the national team. Within a very short period of time he had advanced to the top of the world as a pusher and started alongside pilots Reto Götschi and Martin Annen in the two-man and four-man bobsleigh.
At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , Grand started in the two-man bobsleigh with Christian Reich and just barely missed a medal in fourth. In the four-man bobsleigh, he was part of Bobsleigh Switzerland II with which he finished seventh. Grand finally celebrated his first medal success at the 2001 Bobsleigh World Championship in St. Moritz , where he won silver in the two-man bobsleigh with Götschi. At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , Grand started in Martin Annen's four-man bobsleigh and finished fourth with this. In the 2002/03 season Grand secured four World Cups in a row at Annen's side and a podium finish. In the overall standings, the bob ended up fourth. In the following 2003/04 season he started in Annen's four-man bobsleigh and secured the World Cup victory with this in Cortina d'Ampezzo . In the two-man bobsleigh, it was only in Igls that it was enough to make it back to the top three. It was the only podium of the season in the two-man bobsleigh.
In the 2004/05 season Grand started with a good second place in the two-in Winterberg . Also in the four-man bobsleigh, he was a member of the four-man bobsleigh with Martin Annen, Andi Gees and Beat Hefti, finishing third on the podium. In Cortina d'Ampezzo he repeated last year's victory with his four-man bobsleigh colleagues. The four-man bobsleigh was also at the top of the award ceremony in Cesana Torinese . In Lake Placid he came third in the two-man and four-man bobsleigh. In the overall World Cup he celebrated his first overall World Cup victory with pilot Martin Annen. Second place was achieved in the four-man bobsleigh. In the combination, Grand and pilot Annen secured victory just ahead of Russian Alexander Subkow . For the 2005/06 season Hefti took over his place at Annen's side in the two-man bobsleigh. Grand switched to Ivo Rüegg's two-man bobsleigh . In the overall World Cup he reached seventh place with him, just one place behind Annen. In the four-man bobsleigh, he stayed in Annen's bob and came third in the overall World Cup. At the 2006 European Bobsleigh Championship in St. Moritz, he secured his first European title in the two-man bobsleigh. In Turin he won the bronze medal in the four-man Switzerland I at the 2006 Winter Olympics . He finished eighth in the two-man bobsleigh. In the 2007/08 season he took second place in the overall World Cup alongside Rüegg in the two-man bobsleigh. In the following year , both of them missed the leap into the top three in the overall standings.
At the 2009 Bobsleigh World Championships in Lake Placid , Grand won the two-man bobsleigh title and secured the silver medal with the team. At the 2010 European Bobsleigh Championship in Innsbruck - Igls , Grand won the silver medal in the four-man bobsleigh with Ivo Rüegg, Roman Handschin and Thomas Lamparter behind the German bobsleigh. At his fourth and final 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver a few weeks later, finishing fourth in the four-man bobsleigh, he narrowly missed another medal. In the two-man bobsleigh, he took a good sixth place. He ended the 2009/10 season alongside Ivo Rüegg with overall victory in the two-man bobsleigh. He finished sixth in the four-man bobsleigh.
In October 2010, at the age of 34 and five wins in the overall world cup, Grand announced the end of his active bobsleigh career and announced the takeover of a fitness center. As the responsible trainer, he runs the Le Fitness gym in the Grand Hotel Kempinski Geneva .
Bodybuilding
Since the end of his bobsleigh career, Grand has dedicated himself to fitness and bodybuilding. He is a member of the World Amateur Body Building Association (WABBA) and won the Swiss championship organized by the association in 2012. In 2013 he became vice world champion in Budapest , Hungary .
