Wolfgang Zimmerer (born November 15, 1940 in Ohlstadt ) is a former German bobsleigh driver and Olympic champion .

He won the gold medal in the two-man bobsleigh and the bronze medal in the four-man bobsleigh (with Stefan Gaisreiter and Walter Steinbauer ) at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo with brakeman Peter Utzschneider . He won further world titles in 1973 in the two-man bobsleigh and 1974 in the two-man bobsleigh and four-man bobsleigh. At the opening ceremony of the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , he was the flag bearer of the German team. There he won the silver medal in the two-man bobsleigh and the bronze medal in the four-man bobsleigh (with Peter Utzschneider and Bodo Bittner ) with the athlete Manfred Schumann as a brakeman .

A year before the Olympic Games in Sapporo, he won the pre-Olympic four-man bobsleigh competition on February 13, 1971, ahead of Italy II (De Zordo) and Switzerland I (Wicki).

For his sporting successes he received the silver bay leaf on June 8, 1970 .

Zimmerer is the uncle of ski racers Maria Höfl-Riesch and Susanne Riesch .
