Kathrin Boron , married Kathrin Boron-Kölm (born November 4, 1969 in Eisenhüttenstadt , Frankfurt (Oder) district ) is a four-time Olympic champion and eight-time world champion in rowing , which started first for the GDR and then for Germany.

Career

Kathrin Boron grew up with an older sister in Neuruppin , where she started athletics at the age of 8. Because of health problems, she could not continue to do athletics. Since she really wanted to go to a children's and youth sports school (KJS), she was discovered during a talent inspection for rowing and in 1983 went to the KJS Potsdam and the rowers of the SG Dynamo Potsdam . In addition to numerous GDR titles at junior world championships, she won two gold medals in the children's and youth sector .

Your first year in the senior age began with the handicap of an ankle injury, whatever their start in the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul prevented. Only in the following year did their impressive series of successes begin. She took part in five Summer Olympics, each with outstanding medal wins. At 14 world championships she won 8 world championship titles and 5 silver medals. There are also some German championship titles. Because of her multiple Olympic victories (all in double sculls or double sculls ) she is mentioned in the same breath as Elisabeta Lipă , Marnie McBean and Ekaterina Karsten . She ended her active career with the 2008 Olympic Games . A year later, during the Rowing World Cup in Lucerne, she was honored by the World Rowing Association with its highest award, the Thomas Keller Medal , for her extraordinary rowing career.

Private

After graduating from KJS, Kathrin Boron trained as a bank clerk at Deutsche Bank, AG Potsdam , where she had also been employed since 1994. After the end of her career, she continued to be involved in her clubs Potsdam Rowing Society and Rowing Club Potsdam . At the beginning of 2013, she became a trainer there at a federal youth training center. Since October 1, 2015, she has been working in the athlete support of the Deutsche Sporthilfe in Frankfurt am Main .

Kathrin Boron lived in Caputh ( Schwielowsee municipality ) for the last few years and is a single mother of a daughter (* 2002). She has lived near Frankfurt am Main since July 2015 and is a member of a local rowing club there.
