Hans Plenk

Hans Plenk (born February 21, 1938 in Berchtesgaden ) is a former German luge athlete .

Hans Plenk was one of the most successful German luge riders of the 1960s . He was able to achieve success in both the single and double seater. In the first toboggan competitions at the 1964 Olympic Games in Innsbruck, he won the bronze medal behind Thomas Köhler and Klaus-Michael Bonsack . He was world champion in 1965, 1961 and 1963 and was second in 1960 and third in both singles and doubles (with Horst Tiedge). He was German champion in singles in 1959, 1961, 1963, 1964, 1968 and doubles in 1964 (with Wolfgang Winkler), 1965 (with J. Hasenkopf) and 1968 (with Bernhard Aschauer). At the opening ceremony of the 1968 Winter Olympics , he was the flag bearer of the German team.

On December 11, 1964, Federal President Heinrich Lübke Plenk awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for winning a medal at the Olympics .
