Katrin Wagner-Augustin , nee Wagner , (born October 13, 1977 in Brandenburg (Havel) , Potsdam district , GDR ) is a former German canoeist . She is a four-time Olympic champion in canoe racing .
Athletic career
Wagner became Olympic champion in two and four kayaks at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , she also won gold in the four and bronze in the single . At the closing ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, she carried the German flag into the Olympic Stadium.
In addition, she is 10 times world champion, 13 times European champion and 49 times German champion in canoe racing.
Katrin Wagner-Augustin started for the canoe club Potsdam and is a sports soldier in the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr in Potsdam . After a baby break she reported back with two European championship titles (kayak four-man 500 m & kayak single 500 m) and a third place (kayak single 5000 m) at the European Championships 2012 in Zagreb ; at the Olympic Games in London in 2012 she won the silver medal with the women's kayak foursome over 500 meters.
In 2015 she ended her active career. After completing her diploma studies at the Cologne Trainer Academy of the German Olympic Sports Service in October 2015 and the second maternity leave, she started as a trainer at the federal canoe base in her club on January 2, 2017 .
Katrin Wagner-Augustin has been married to the former canoeist Lars Augustin since October 1, 2004 and has a son (* 2011) and a daughter (* 2016) with him. The family lives in Geltow .
