The 38th Canoe Racing World Championships took place from August 19-22, 2010 in the Polish city ​​of Poznan , the venue was Lake Malta. The World Championships were organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF). Poznan hosted the Canoe Racing World Championships for the third time .

A total of 35 official competitions were held in the canoeing and kayaking disciplines . New to the program were the 5000 m races in the single boats and the C-1 for women over 200 m. After the good experiences from the previous year, competitions in the Paracanoe were held for the first time as official competitions as part of the Canoe World Championships . In 2009, all of the competitions mentioned were still demonstration competitions. 66 disabled athletes from 30 nations took part in the seven Paracanoeing regattas  . A total of 824 athletes from 75 nations were represented.

The German Canoe Association (DKV) took part with 33 athletes, including four disabled athletes. Overall, the World Championships went well for the German team. They won twelve medals, including five in gold, but this time they had to place themselves in second place behind Hungary in the medal table. With five medals won, the association's target was not achieved on the Olympic routes.
