The 33rd Canoe Racing World Championships took place from September 10th to 14th, 2003 in the USA in Gainesville (Georgia) . The competitions were held on Lake Lanier . The World Championships were organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF).

A total of 27 competitions were held in the disciplines of canoeing and kayaking , with 18 for men and only 9 for women, since they only held kayak competitions. The distances of the regattas were 200 m, 500 m and 1000 m.

doping

The Russian Sergey Ulegin won two gold and one silver medals, but these were revoked because of the use of doping substances. His racing colleagues in the C-2 500m ( Aleksandr Kostoglod ), C-4 200 m (Kostoglod, Roman Kruglyakov and Maxim Opalew ), and C-4 500 m (Kostoglod, Kruglyakov and Maxim Opalew ) also had to hand over the medals. Ulegin was banned from sports for 2 years.
