Martin Doctor
Martin "Boban" Doktor (born May 21, 1974 in Polička , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech canoeist . He was a two-time winner of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta .
Career
He sat in a boat for the first time when he was four years old, and when he was seven he started training in Pardubice , back then still in a kayak . It was not until 1986 that he started canoeing and in 1992 he became junior world champion in single canoes in Hamburg on the 1,000 m course .
Doctor took part in the Olympic Games three times and started each time in a single canoe. 1996 he won in Atlanta gold over both distances (500 m and 1,000 m), 2000 in Sydney he respectively finished in eighth place and in 2004 he was in Athens on the 500 m Fifth and about 1,000 m fourth.
At the Canoe Racing World Championships in 1995 , Doktor took silver in each of the two C1 distances. In 1997 he was able to win the world title over 500 m and silver again over 200 and 1000 m. In 1998 Doktor became world champion in the 200 m, won silver in the 1000 m and together with Petr Netušil , Jan Macháč and Viktor Jiráský in the four-man canoe bronze in the 1000 m. He also returned home from the Canoe Racing World Championships in 1999 with three medals in the single-canoe disciplines: silver over 200 and 500 and bronze over 1000 m. After becoming vice world champion over 1000 m in 2001 , he won silver over 200 and bronze over 500 m at the 2003 Canoe Racing World Championships .
