Lyubomir Lyubenow
Lyubomir Jankow Lyubenow ( Bulgarian Любомир Янков Любенов ; born August 26, 1957 in Plovdiv ) is a former Bulgarian canoeist . He was world champion and Olympic champion.
Life
At the canoe racing world championships in Belgrade in 1978 he was world champion in single canoes over 500 meters. A year later, at the Canoe Racing World Championships in Duisburg in 1979 , he was runner-up in the single-canoe over 1000 meters and won bronze in the single-canoe over 500 meters. He achieved his greatest sporting success with the Olympic victory at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow in the single canoe over 1000 meters. In the competition over 500 meters he achieved the silver medal. At the Canoe Racing World Championships in 1981 in Nottingham , he won the bronze medal in the two-man canoe over 500 meters together with Sevdalin Ilkow .
He was awarded the Order of Georgi Dimitrov as a Hero of Socialist Labor .
