Order of Georgi Dimitrov
The Order Georgi Dimitrov (also spelled Georgi Dimitrov , Bulgarian Орден Георги Димитров ) was founded on June 17, 1950 by Decree No. 286 of the Presidium of the Bulgarian National Assembly in memory of the Bulgarian communist leader Georgi Dimitrov . The medal was awarded to both Bulgarians and foreigners for unique merits in defending Bulgaria's freedom and independence as well as for outstanding contributions to building socialism . The award was the highest order of the People's Republic of Bulgaria . After the end of communism, the order was abolished.

Order decoration
The medal is a gold medal that shows the portrait of Georgi Dimitrov in the middle and is surrounded by ears of wheat . Above the portrait a five-pointed, red enameled star. Underneath a red name band with the Cyrillic characters Георги Димитров (Georgi Dimitroff) and underneath the symbols hammer and sickle .
Carrying method
The award is worn on a red ribbon with a slightly lighter edge strip on the left side of the chest.

In total, the medal was awarded 4518 times. The first bearer was Prime Minister Walko Chervenkov .
