Andreas Dittmer (born April 16, 1972 in Neustrelitz , GDR ) is a former German canoeist , multiple world champion and three-time Olympic champion .
Career
Dittmer started in canoe racing and has been one of the world's best since 1991. Between 1994 and 2008 he was world champion eight times in single and two-man Canadians . At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , he won his first Olympic gold medal in the two-man canoe over 1000 m with Gunar Kirchbach . Then Dittmer concentrated exclusively on the singles competitions and won the gold medal in the singles over 1000 m at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . On the sprint course over 500 m, he was also able to win the bronze medal in Sydney.
In 2003 he was double world champion in the single canoe over 500 and 1000 m in Gainesville, USA . This of course made him a top favorite for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . In his parade discipline over 1000 m, he was initially only able to win the silver medal. He was defeated by the Spaniard David Cal by four tenths in the final run . But a day later, Dittmer became Olympic champion for the third time when he won the 500 m sprint and left David Cal second.

Private
Andreas Dittmer is a banker and savings bank economist and started for SC Neubrandenburg . Since 2004 he has been an honorary citizen of the city of Neubrandenburg . He has also been committed to promoting young talent for many years. So he has z. In 2006, for example, a youth camp was organized and carried out at the national performance center Kienbaum (near Berlin) and in 2007 in Sabaudia, Italy.
Andreas Dittmer ended his active career in 2008 and worked for the German Savings Banks and Giro Association until 2018. Since March 2018 he has worked as a national trainer for the Canadian Canoe Association.
At the 2012 Summer Olympics , he was on site as an ambassador for the “ MV tut gut .” Campaign in his home state Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and recorded his impressions in an online diary.
Dittmer's younger sister Anja (* 1975) was one of the most successful German triathletes .
