Tibor Tatai (born August 4, 1944 in Pöse , Vas County ) is a former Hungarian canoeist .

successes

Tibor Tatai took part in the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , where he competed in the Canadier over the 1000 meter distance. As second in his preliminary run, he qualified for the final. In this he sat at the head of the field after half the race distance and also finished the race in first place. Tatai became Olympic champion ahead of Detlef Lewe from Germany and Vitali Galkow from Russia . Two years later he won at the world championships in Copenhagen over the same distance world title . In 1971 he secured silver in the 1000 meter World Championship in Belgrade . Before the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich he ended his active career and turned to professional life.
