Tomasz Wylenzek (born January 9, 1983 in Świerklaniec , Poland ) is a German canoeist . He was multiple world champion and 2004 Olympic champion in Athens .

Wylenzek moved with his parents from Poland to Germany in 2000. He completed an apprenticeship as an office clerk at RAG Aktiengesellschaft . The canoe racer of KG Essen was at the Olympic Games 2004 in Athens with Christian Gille Olympic champion in two-man canoes over 1000 m.

In 2008 Gille and Wylenzek qualified for participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing , where they reached the finals on both routes. Over 1000 m, after leading the whole race, they were intercepted at the finish line by the boat from Belarus and won the silver medal. Subsequently, Wylenzek had a circulatory collapse and received medical treatment. Nevertheless, Gille / Wylenzek still won the bronze medal over 500 m the following day. Immediately afterwards Wylenzek was in the September 2008 performance sports project of the federal police added.

For his sporting success he and his partner Gille received the Silver Laurel Leaf from Federal President Köhler.

In 2005, Wylenzek was world champion in the two-man canoe over 1000 m and 500 m, and second in the two-man canoe over 200 m. In 2006 he became vice world champion in two-man over 200 meters. At the 2007 World Championships on the Wedau in Duisburg he won the two-man over 1000 meters, over 500 meters he was third and over 200 meters second. At the Canoe Racing World Championships 2009 in Dartmouth (Canada) he and his new partner Erik Leue became world champion in the two-man canoe over 1000 m. At the Canoe Racing World Championships in 2011 he won the title again over the same distance, this time with Stefan Holtz . At the 2010 World Championships , he had also won the bronze medal over 1000 m with the four-man canoe .

At the European Championships he won the two-man canoe in 2005 over all three distances (1000 m, 500 m and 200 m). In the 2006 championships he was runner-up in the European 1000 meter championship. At the European Championships in 2007 he also won over 1000 meters.
