Career

Demjanenko won his first international title at the U23 European Championships over 500 meters in the singles canoe.

In the same year his coaches registered him for the European Senior Championships . In the single canoe over 200 meters he won the silver medal in Poznan, Poland, and was only a tenth of a second behind Maxim Opalew from Russia.

A month later he took part in the 2005 World Championships in Zagreb . He finished fourth in the single canoe over 500 meters. In the single canoe over 200 meters, he was able to push Opalew to second place this time and secure the world title.

At the World Championships in Szeged he competed again over 200 meters. However, he could not defend his title and took second place behind the Russian Nikolai Lipkin .

In 2009 Demjanenko moved to the Azerbaijan Canoe Association. In 2009 and 2011 he was again world and European champion in the C-1 over 200 meters. In addition, he also won gold over 500 meters in the single canoe at the European Championships in 2011 and was world champion in the C-1 over 200 meters for the fourth time in 2013 .
