The 40th Canoe Racing World Championships took place from August 27 to September 1, 2013 in Duisburg . Competition venue was the regatta course Duisburg in Duisburg Sports Park . The event was organized by the International Canoe Association , and hosted by the German Canoe Association , which is also based in Duisburg.
prehistory
The title fights were initially awarded to Szeged (Hungary), which, however, took over the organization of the 2011 World Cup in 2010 after the brief withdrawal of Vichy (France) . After that, the bid went to Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), which would have become the first South American World Cup location. However, as the competition venues there could not be completed due to a lack of funds, the Brazilian Canoe Association gave the World Cup back in September 2012. In a short bidding process, the award went to the German Canoe Association.
program
The competition program included races in canoes and kayaks for men and women in single, double and quadruple races . Route lengths were 200, 500, 1000 and 5000 meters. On the final day there were also three decisions in the 4 x 200 meter relay in the single kayak for women and men and in the single canoe for men. The program thus comprised 37 decisions. On the first three days there were races in the Paracanoe for athletes with physical disabilities, which were an official part of the World Championship. The races in the Parcanoe were held over a distance of 200 meters in twelve different boat and damage classes. The boat classes in the Paracanoe were kayak (K1) and outrigger canoe (V1).
Supporting program
After the races, several musicians and artists appeared in the evening on the Canoe World Championship Plaza next to the event stage in the Duisburg Sport Park as part of the supporting program. Christina Stürmer made on 08/28. started with their hit “ Million Lights ”. On August 29th, DJ Antoine followed , made famous by the single "Welcome to St. Tropez".
