Tom Kierey

Tom Kierey (born September 4, 1994 in Dresden ) is a German disabled athlete.

Life

Tom Kierey is severely disabled. He has a clubfoot on his right leg, a stiffened knee joint and hardly any muscles in his right lower leg. Despite this impairment, he did not want to forego sporting activity. He decided to go canoeing and became a member of the Berlin Canoe Club Borussia . As a sporting discipline, he chose the single kayak.

Because of his good performance, he was soon used in international competitions as part of the German national disabled canal team. In his performance group K 3 he took part in the 2013 world championships in a single kayak and won the gold medal in a single kayak over 200 m. He repeated this success at the following World Championships in 2015.

He also took part in the 2016 Paralympic Games and won a silver medal in his individual kayak discipline over 200 m.

For winning the silver medal at the Paralympic Summer Games 2016, he was awarded the silver laurel leaf by Federal President Joachim Gauck on November 1, 2016 .
