Ian David Marsden (* 24. August 1967 in St. Vincent's Hospital, Greenwich Village , New York City ) is a Swiss and American cartoonist , caricaturist , comic - artist , illustrator and author , designer , artist and animator .

His career began in Zurich at the age of 16 with his first cartoons in the Nebelspalter . This was followed by publications in Switzerland and internationally, for example in US Mad Magazine and in New Yorker .

Marsden was one of the first artists to draw funny logo modifications for Google , the so-called Google Doodles , in particular the Google kangaroo that played around on the Google logo for over two weeks during the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney . Marsden designed the official mascot , the " Smoony ", for the 2003 Alpine World Ski Championships in St. Moritz . The idea of ​​the half moon and half sun was based on a design that won first place in a children's competition. Marsden was also asked for the Expo.02 to design the official mascot and the entire character worlds for all species. In the end, however, his designs were not used.

Marsden lives with his wife Sheryl Ann, with whom he has been married since 1995, and his two daughters Joanna Sheryl (* 1996) and Ashley Ruth (* 1999) near Montpellier in southern France .
