Jonas Ems (born August 26, 1986 in Hamm ) is a German canoeist .
Ems is a sports soldier in the Bundeswehr sports promotion group . He had previously completed training as a mechatronics technician .
The canoe racer of KG Essen , who previously started for the canoe ring Hamm , won the silver medal in the four-person kayak over 200 m at the 2005 World Championships . In 2006 he became German champion in a single kayak over 200 meters and also defeated the reigning world champion over this distance Ronald Rauhe . In 2007 Ems competed in a single kayak over 200 m and over 500 m at the home world championships in Duisburg . He surprisingly became world champion over the 200 m distance and was then able to confirm this performance with an unexpected 4th place in the 500 m distance. In 2008 he qualified for participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing in a single kayak over 500 m. After a second place in the preliminaries, he only finished sixth in his semi-finals and thus missed the final, for which a place in the top three would have been necessary.
Ems lives with the canoeist Friederike Leue .
