Carolin Leonhardt (born November 22, 1984 in Lampertheim ) is a former German canoeist . She is multiple world and European champion and Olympic champion .

Life

Leonhardt came to canoeing in 1994. She first drew attention to herself when she became Junior World Champion in four-person kayaks over 500 m and two-person kayaks over 1000 m at the age of 17 .

The canoe racer of the WSV Mannheim-Sandhofen was at the Olympic Games in Athens 2004 together with Birgit Fischer , Katrin Wagner and Maike Nollen Olympic champion in a four-person kayak over 500 m. Together with Birgit Fischer, she also won the silver medal in a two-person kayak over 500 m.

In spring 2008 she was able to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and should start there again in a four-person kayak. A few days before the start of the competitions, however, she fell ill with sinus infection . On the advice of the doctors, she was replaced in the intended position in the four by substitute Conny Waßmuth and had to leave the Olympic village prematurely . In the 2008 final in Beijing , the German women's four-person kayak (500 m) won the gold medal without Leonhardt.

At the 2012 Olympic Games , Leonhardt achieved the silver medal over 500 m in the German women's four-man kayak with Tina Dietze , Franziska Weber and Katrin Wagner-Augustin .

In 2016 she ended her career.
