Conny Waßmuth (born April 13, 1983 in Halle (Saale) , GDR ) is a German canoeist . The KC Potsdam athlete became the 2008 Olympic champion in a four-person kayak .

Conny Waßmuth started canoeing at Hallesches Kanu-Club 54 and switched to the sports school in Magdeburg in 1994 and joined the SC Magdeburg . She took part in the Junior World Championships as a teenager in 1999 and won silver in a foursome. In 2001 she became junior runner-up in single and four-person kayaks. In 2005 she made it to the senior national team for the first time. She was able to fight for a place in the foursome and became world and European champion in this boat. In 2006 the boat took second place both times. In 2007 the team again secured the European Championship and World Championship title with Waßmuth.

In 2008, she initially missed qualifying for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , but prevailed against Marina Schuck in the playoff for the position as a substitute driver . One day before the start of the Olympic canoe racing competitions , she was nominated for the foursome by the German Canoe Association after the originally planned Carolin Leonhardt had to drop out due to illness. In this discipline she won the gold medal on August 22nd together with Fanny Fischer , Nicole Reinhardt and Katrin Wagner-Augustin .

For winning the gold medal, she received the silver laurel leaf from Federal President Köhler.

At the 2009 European Canoe Racing Championships in Brandenburg an der Havel , she also won the gold medal with the same line-up ahead of Hungary and Russia. At the Canoe Racing World Championships 2009 in Dartmouth Waßmuth won double gold. Once in a kayak four over 200 m with Carolin Leonhardt, Katrin Wagner-Augustin and Tina Dietze and in the relay in a single kayak over 4 × 200 m with Fanny Fischer, Nicole Reinhardt and Katrin Wagner-Augustin.

In 2010, Waßmuth won gold again at the Canoe Racing World Championships 2010 in Poznan with the 4 × 200 m relay in a single kayak together with Nicole Reinhardt, Tina Dietze and Katrin Wagner-Augustin.

Conny Waßmuth is sport soldier of sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr . Before that, she started studying sports science at the University of Potsdam . At the end of the 2012 season, Waßmuth moved to KC Potsdam , where the German Canoe Association concentrated the women's foursome.
